Map of Delavan Lake, Wisconsin dated 1966

Treatment began on this map by first unrolling it and testing the colors and ink for stability.  Changes in printing technology during the 1950's and 1960's has led to the creation of a generation of documents that do not respond well to traditional conservation treatments, so due caution is a must before rushing into treatments.  After determining that the inks and color were, indeed, stable, the map was float washed to relax it and prepare it for lining onto a new support paper.  After the document was lined and completely dry, any folds and creases were smoothed out by hand.  As a final protective process, the map was encapsulated.
